JASON GEDDES WILL RUN FOR RE-ELECTION TO NEVADA BOARD OF REGENTS
RENO, Nev. (March 1, 2016) – Nevada Regent Jason Geddes, Ph.D., announced he will run for re-election to the Nevada System of Higher Education (NSHE) Board of Regents, a post he’s held for nine years, including two terms as Board Chairman (2011-2012 and 2012-2013).
Geddes says he wants to continue to serve the citizens of District 11 encompassing northern Washoe County and Pershing County and see the NSHE achievements that started during his term progress with new board initiatives.
“It’s been a privilege to serve Nevada, the NSHE, our Governor, citizens of District 11 and our university and college students,” Geddes said. “Despite some of the most trying economic times for the state and system, I am proud of what the board has accomplished during my tenure. As Chair, I led the NSHE board through a strategic visioning process that focused on increasing student achievement, retention and success and increasing NSHE’s transparency, accountability and performance. I’m committed to ensuring the higher education system in Nevada is accessible and affordable to Nevada citizens.”
Governor Brian Sandoval supports Geddes in his re-election bid. “Nevada’s higher education system, university and college students have benefited from Nevada Regent Jason Geddes service and leadership the past nine years,” said Governor Brian Sandoval. “He has demonstrated a keen understanding of the value that higher education has for Nevadans in preparing them for jobs in Nevada’s new economy, including advanced manufacturing, logistics and technology. I am proud to support Jason Geddes in his campaign for re-election to the NSHE Board of Regents.
Key accomplishments the NSHE Board has accomplished during Geddes term include:
“There’s no greater satisfaction as a Regent than to see successful graduates walk across the stage each year prepared for their next stage in life. My goal is to continue to make higher education a priority for Nevada citizens,” he says.
Geddes is employed as the energy and sustainability manager at Washoe County School District. Previously, he was the environmental services administrator for the City of Reno and held management positions at the Economic Development Authority of Western Nevada and the University of Nevada, Reno. He was elected to the Nevada Assembly in 2002-2004.
Geddes serves on multiple professional and civic organizations. He has been recognized for his environmental and conservation work, including being named “Legislator of the Year” by the Nevada Wildlife Federation.
